Meaning of “Om” & “Shubhyatra”
In Hindu religion, “Om” is a sacred sound and a spiritual symbol. It is considered the primordial sound from which the universe originated. “Om” is believed to encompass the essence of the cosmos, representing the divine, the universe, and the ultimate reality. It is often chanted at the beginning and end of prayers, mantras, and meditation sessions. The syllable “Om” consists of three sounds: “A”, “U”, and “M”, representing the three aspects of existence- walking state, dream state, and deep sleep state-as well as the three Hindu deities Bramha, Vishnu, and Shiva, who are believed to be the creator, preserver, and destroyer of the universe, respectively. Chanting “Om” is believed to align the practitioner with divine and to bring peace, harmony, and spiritual upliftment.
“Shubhyatra” is a term from Sanskrit, an ancient Indo-Aryan language. In Nepali, Hindi and several other Hindu languages, “Shubh” means auspicious or good, and “Yatra” means journey or travel. So, “Shubhyatra” essentially translates to “auspicious journey” or “good travels”. It’s often used as a blessing or well-wish for someone embarking on journey, wishing them a safe and successful trip.
